Or Oren was born in Netanya, Israel (1993) and started his music education when he was 9 years old (2001), Starting with learning how to play the trombone in a school program and taking lessons at Netanya Conservatory later that year.

 

During his studies in the conservatory, among his electronics studies in high school, he performed with Netanya Youth Wind Orchestra and the Brass Quintet as a player and soloist around the country, and abroad: Italy, Germany and Hungary.

 

He wrote his first compositions at age 15 and one of them, First Suite in Bb for Wind Orchestra, was performed by the Youth Orchestra in the summer of 2009, Motti Miron Conducting. During his studies, he received awards and scholarships both from the Conservatory and Netanya City Hall.

After graduating from ORT Yad-Lebovitz high school and Netanya Conservatory, he got accepted and recruited to the IDFO (Israel Defense Force Orchestra), where he worked as both Orchestra Player and Librarian (2011-2014). During his Military Service, he wrote a March called “Ale Shel Za’it”. That piece was performed later on in 2015 by Be’er Sheva Wind Orchestra – one of the best wind orchestras in Israel, conducted by Or himself.

In 2013, he was accepted to the Jazz Institute program Rimon School of Music in Ramat HaSharon, that is supervised by Ronen Shmueli (a Berklee Alumni). In 2014, during his studies in Rimon, he began working as a Trombone Teacher and a year later became a School Program Supervisor, and a Youth Orchestra Conductor. Soon as he graduated from Rimon, he auditioned for Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA), and received a scholarship to attend the undergraduate program.

During 2015, he was asked by the IMPJ (Israeli Movement for Progressive) to write a piece based on the music of Debbie Friedman, an American singer-songwriter of Jewish religious songs and melodies. A year later, the “Debbie Friedman Suite” was recorded and preformed in May 2016 at the IMPJ Biennial Convention in Israel, and in Boston at the WURJ Humanitarian Awards Dinner in December 2017. Three more performances will take place in Brazil and Holland.

In September 2016, he moved to Boston and began his undergraduate program at Berklee in Film Scoring and conducting. At Berklee he worked as the Film Scoring Department Assistant, and received the Doug Timm Award to recognize him as an extraordinary senior student.

As the Film Scoring Department Assistant he collaborated with visiting artists such as Thomas Newman (Composer of The Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, The Green Mile, Angels in America, Finding Nemo, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, WALL-E, the James Bond films Skyfall, Spectre, and the war film 1917).

After graduating in 2018, Or moved to Los Angeles where he now lives and works mainly in the TV music industry. 

He started collaborating with TV composers Jon Ehrlich and Jason Derlatka (House M.D.) on the scores for “The Resident” on FOX, “Party of Five” on Freeform and “Goliath” on Amazon where he featured as a Solo Trombonist. Or will also feature on the score for 'Tom and Jerry in New York' Animated Sequel Series that will air on HBO, composed by Itamar Ben Zimra.

Additionally Or wrote music for advertisement, short films, podcasts and theater. In May 2021 two performances of “Miriam – The First Woman Prophet” took place after being postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The musical tells the story of Miriam’s life from rescuing her brother Moses to delivering the Hebrew people at the doorstep of the Holy Land through using music written by Debbie Friedman. The music was arranged for vocalists and the band by Or. One of his recent works was the score for the short film “Another Life” (2020) which won a Platinum Remi Award at the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival for best original music in the shorts category.
